Core Doctrines - The Resurrection
1.0Jesus physically rose from the dead. (1 Cor 15v3)
1.1
Although other people have been revived (i.e. come back to life after dying - only to go on to die again) before Jesus, He is the first person to be resurrected (i.e. come back to life in a new body and never to die again). ( 1 Cor. 15v20 and for example, John 11v43)
1.2
If Jesus did not rise from the dead then the whole of our faith is worthless (1 Cor 15v14)
2.0
Jesus resurrection body was physical (Luke 24v42 and John 21v12 and 13 - Jesus was able to pick things up and eat) and the disciples touched him (Matt 28v9; Luke 24v39). Jesus was not a ghost.
2.1
Jesus's earthly body was missing from the tomb when he was resurrected. (Matthew 28v13)
2.2
Nevertheless, Jesus' resurrected body was different in many respects from His earthly body. (1 Cor 15v35-44) For example, In His new resurrected body Jesus could pass through locked doors ( John 20v19).
3.0
Jesus resurrection is theologically important
3.1
His resurrection authenticates all Jesus's claims about who He is. (John 10v18)
3.2
His resurrection is proof that His atonement for our sins is full and completed.
3.3
His resurrection is evidence of our salvation that one day we too will be resurrected from the dead.
4.0
The Resurrection was an act of all 3 persons of the Trinity
4.1
It was an act of God the father ( Psalm 16v10, Acts 2v24, 3v15)
4.2
It was an act of Jesus Himself (John 2v19, 10v18)
4.3
It was an act of the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 3v18)

Jesus foretold His resurrection (Matt. 20v19, Luke 18v33, John 2v19)
6.0
The resurrection was witnessed by a vast number of people.
6.1
To Mary Magdalene at the sepulchre alone. This is recorded at length only by John 20:11-18.
6.2
To certain women, "the other Mary," Salome, Joanna, and others, as they returned from the sepulchre. (Matthew 28:1-10) alone gives an account of this.
6.3
To Simon Peter alone on the day of the resurrection. (See Luke 24:34; 1 Cor. 15:5.)
6.4
To the two disciples on the way to Emmaus on the day of the resurrection, recorded fully only by Luke (24:13-35. Compare Mark 16:12,13).
6.5
To the ten disciples (Thomas being absent) and others "with them," at Jerusalem on the evening of the resurrection day. One of the evangelists gives an account of this appearance, (John 20:19-24).
6.6
To the disciples again (Thomas being present) at Jerusalem (Mark 16:14-18)
6.7
To the disciples when fishing at the Sea of Galilee. Of this appearance also John (21:1-23) alone gives an account.
6.8
To the eleven, and above 500 brethren at once, at an appointed place in Galilee (1 Cor. 15:6; compare Matt. 28:16-20).
6.9
To the apostles immediately before the ascension. They accompanied him from Jerusalem to Mount Olivet, and there they saw him ascend "till a cloud received him out of their sight" (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:50-52; Acts 1:4-10).
7.0
The historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is overwhelming.
8.0
Some Christians believe that the shroud of Turin is a genuine relic - the real cloth that covered Jesus' body and that the image imprinted on it is as a result of His resurrection. The evidence regarding this is inconclusive and contraversial. This is an interesting issue, but a side issue. Not something that should consume too much of our time.
9.0
There is some debate as to Jesus' burial place - whether it is in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Jerusalem or the Garden Tomb just outside of Jerusalem. The later lacks historical credibility. However, this is also a side issue and not something to consume too much time on.
1 - The Tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre
2 - The Inside of the Garden Tomb
3 - Outside of the Garden Tomb
4 - The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem.
5 - A negative of the Shroud of Turin
