`Jesus of Nazareth`, or `Jesus son of Joseph` was a real historical man who lived in Israel between about 3BC to 33AD.

Jesus is the Greek form of the Hebrew name, Joshua, which means "the Lord saves".

His name was directly relevant to His mission - to bring salvation by grace to His people.

Christ means `anointed one` or Messiah.

The Messiah was prophesied Savior of Israel. The long waited for King who would lead them into peace and prosperity.

Jesus' life seems to consist of three main periods.
4.1
Jesus' miraculous birth. Jesus was born at Bethlehem during the reign of the emperor Augustus. He was born to Mary who was engaged to Joseph. Jesus conception was miraculous. Mary was a virgin and Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
4.2
His private life - from early years until about the age of 30. We know very little about this period of His life.
4.3
His public ministry lasting about 3 years. Jesus began ministry at about the age of 30. This began with His baptism and His first public miracle - turning water into wine.

The first year of His ministry is sometimes referred to as the year of obscurity. The records we possess of this year are fairly scant. He appears to have been only slowly emerging into public notice. He spent most of this year in Judea.

The second year was the year of public favour. He was constantly active and He was known by reputation through the whole of Israel. Most of this year was spent in Galilee.

The third year was a year of opposition. Public favour ebbed away. His enemies multiplied and gathered resolve. Their persecution increased in intensity until He was finally murdered.

The Old Testament is full of prophetic writings and teachings regarding the coming Savior and deliverer. All such prophecies are fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Jesus was both fully God and fully man.

Jesus was not half God and half man.
6.2
God did not create Jesus - Jesus is God - and He always existed even prior to becoming a human being.

Jesus was involved in the creation of the universe. (John 1)

As a man God in Jesus experienced exactly the same things we do. He had the same temptations, the same physical pains and the same emotional suffering (John 11v35). He was ignored, unappreciated, unloved, misunderstood and despised - even though He did nothing wrong and loved everyone. (1 Peter 2v23)

Jesus performed many miracles during his earthly ministry.
7.1
Some of the miracles were performed out of compassion for people in their suffering.
7.2
Some of the miracles were performed as signs of His deity and His mission.
7.3
Some of the miracles were performed simply for the glory of God.

Prior to becoming a man in Jesus Christ He had previously appeared at various times in the history of Israel in human form. These are called theophonies.
8.1
For example, Jesus appeared to Abraham just before the judgment of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Also, Jesus fought with Jacob through the night.

In the incarnation Jesus did not just `appear` to be human. He became fully human.

Jesus was fully human, but completely sinless.
9.1
Jesus never committed any sin whatsoever - He overcame all temptations He faced.

Jesus was crucified in order to pay the price for our sins. He suffered on our behalf. (See teaching on salvation) (1 Peter 2v21, 3v18)

Death could not hold Him down. Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday.

Jesus now lives in Heaven.

He continues working to help us. (Romans 8v34)

One day Jesus was return to earth as the rightful King. At that time every eye will see Him and every knee will bow.
