"We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."

Luke 18:31-33 |
In this passage Jesus is telling the disciples what is going to happen to himself and exactly how it will occur. Jesus The High Priest was going to be sacrificed for our sins. Psalms 107:6-7 speaks about cities of refuge. It also mentions cities of refuge in the book of numbers. These were cities where those who had unintentionally caused the death of another could find safety from a law allowing a person to avenge the dead family member or friend. In the New Testament Jesus is our place of refuge when we have done something wrong. Justice still needs to be done, but our wrongdoings will be forgiven if we confess our faults to Jesus and then sin no more.
The disciples had not understood what Jesus was going to do and why. Believing that the Lord gives refuge in Jesus is something that only a divine revelation can reveal. To him who seek Him, he reveals his secrets.
